I have not been able to find answers to the following questions:
1. If I buy the complete kit, what is the scan volume and the scan resolution?
2. The announcement about the RPI4 talked about a new version of the HAT.What is the status?

This highly depends on your calibration, camera settings and lasers. I reached an accuracy of +- 0.1mm with the parts in the kit. Maybe more is possible when you replace the lasers with better ones.
2. The announcement about the RPI4 talked about a new version of the HAT.What is the status?
I suggest you to wait 6 - 8 weeks. We are working on a final version of the new HAT. The new HAT will solve a couple of shortcomings.
Thanx for the reply. I will wait the 2 months. Maybe make this a Jan 2021 project.
According to the watterott site the other info is:
- Object size up to about 10x10x10cm (turntable 140mm diameter)
- Enclosure size about 25x25x25cm
